“Altered States of Mind” is a feature length documentary exploring how humans across the globe reach these higher states through ceremonies, chanting, religious prayers, rhythmic music, hallucinogenic plants and trance raves - across Bali, Australia and Nepal. An altered state of consciousness is a shift from ordinary perception, welcoming new sensations, perspectives, or emotional depths usually inaccessible.

This film immerses the viewer deep inside various rituals and communities to uncover the methods used and the healing potential of entering these altered states of mind.

The Creator of A.S.O.M

Jakob Webb is the creator of “Altered States of Mind”. Releasing his debut feature film at just 19 years old.

He has been creating films consistently since the age of 10, honing his craft. He now works on sets across England in the lighting department, as a Gaffer and Spark, working with companies like; Channel 4, Hyundai & Meta Quest VR.

As well as creating various films and documentaries for hundreds of thousands of viewers on the “Jakob Cine” Youtube channel. Most notably documenting underground rave culture.

“This production consumed my mind and life for over 6 months and continues to do so, as I market the film. I had been visualising a feature film that I would film in Nepal for 2 years prior to shooting, on a subconscious level… and now here we are.”

This production was created largely by one person with his main collaborator being Milo Lockwood, a talented music composer. On this production, Jakob took on many roles including - Director, DOP, Editor, Voiceover Artist, Sound Designer, Colourist, etc...

“Working on this production has forced me to reach a whole new realm of discipline, sacrifice and dedication. Working on a feature film, it bleeds into many different aspects of your life. You begin to feel as though, there isn’t enough time in the week. I began addicted to the edit, it was my drug of choice, it felt like my brain was being fed by the creative energy. Now it is over, all I want to do is share it with the World”

MILO LOCKWOOD’S

ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK.

A completely original score was created for this film by Milo Lockwood. Working alongside Jakob as a key collaborator on this project.

In the creation of his first feature soundtrack, Milo entered a new abyss, learning to search through the dark for the subtle timbres that would do justice to the themes and visuals exploring such a rich tapestry that is spirituality in our world.

The process began with the Balinese Ceremony scene, in which the use of ethnic instruments and lively, texturally rich sonics was encouraged by the director. From this point he navigated the soundtrack by using his many years of production experience to design sounds that brought forth a deep emotional landscape.

From this point on, he broke into a stride of soundtracking each successive scene, with the change of working location from England to Vietnam adding even more interest to the score. Most of the scenes in the second half of the movie were soundtracked in the small mountain town of Ha Giang in Northern Vietnam.

The creation of the score was a journey in and of itself, with many hurdles of exhaustion and error, as is the nature of undertaking such a large project. He feels as though, at the end of it, he has changed as a person and become exponentially better equipped for many future projects to come as he ventures forth into the world of soundtracking.

The soundtrack immerses the viewer and draws them into the story. The original soundtrack will be out as an album on Spotify in the coming weeks.
