GRIT
“IT’S COLD OUT - JAWNINO”
This music video follow a group of youth and explores topics such as crime, drugs, trespassing and theft. It's an insight into an underground world.
It’s a music video to “It’s Cold Out - Jawnino”, a very atmospheric song that suits the visual style I was going for. I wanted a very gritty and real look to the project.

ABOUT THE CREATOR
Creator, Editor, DOP, Director
Jakob Webb is a filmmaker based in Brighton, UK. He has been filmmaking for 8 years and now specialises in Cinematography & Editing. Music videos are an area of film that is his primary focus. He is just starting out in the music video industry and this is one of his key works.
The idea for this project came largely from listening to the song “It’s Cold Out - Jawnino” and drawing inspiration from other underground rap music videos coming out at the time. I also got interested in urban exploration which led to me shooting the rooftop scene.
BEHIND THE PRODUCTION
In this scene a mysterious hooded figure is weighing coke and it is clear that he is a dealer. We filmed for 4 hours on this scene.
Firstly we did set decoration. I only needed to set dress the table, but I did it in an effective way that tells the characters situation and story. I created fake ‘to do lists’ and added props like; calculator, drug phone, scales, baggys, cash, etc… This was a really fun process and I found it fun to sit in the characters seat and think about where he would place his items. Once I was finished with set design I moved onto lighting.
I shot all of these shots on my anamorphic lens (Sirui 35mm). Giving it a widescreen and unique look.
For lighting, I wanted to have a blue X green contrast going. I used window light and brought in textured coloured lighting to tweaked it until it looked right. We had the camera rigged overhead to get the top down shot of the cocaine on the table. All these techniques worked together to create a gritty, cold atmosphere.
